I have an old warrant from a court in New York for a failure to appear in a tax case. I want to visit Dubai for a holiday but I am afraid of being arrested at the airport. Does the UAE police check for every single US warrant? Is it better to avoid the trip until I settle the case in the States? What are the chances of the US actually asking for my extradition for a tax issue?

Even if it's an old case, if the USA has put it into the Interpol system, the Dubai authorities will see it. The UAE and the USA cooperate very closely on financial crimes lately. You can check the risks at https://intercollegium.com/ before you book any tickets. They can do a search to see if your name is on the list that immigration officers see. Tax issues can be tricky because the UAE now has its own corporate tax, so "dual criminality" might apply. My advice is to never travel to a high-tech hub like Dubai if you have an open warrant. It is not worth the risk of being detained at the border and spending your vacation in a cell. Get a professional to check your status first and then decide if it is safe to travel.
