During sexual intercourse, most men ejaculate between five and ten minutes, and research has shown that the

to ejaculation after penetration is five and a half minutes. Generally, ejaculation less than one to one and a half minutes after penetration is considered premature ejaculation. However, if it does not cause distress in either partner, treatment may not be necessary. The presence of distress associated with rapid ejaculation often indicates the need for treatment. Some treatments include behavioral exercises, the use of condoms, an anesthetic spray, and antidepressants. These medications require a prescription and come in two forms. SSRIs are a very effective treatment for depression, but they have a significant side effect: they delay ejaculation; therefore, they are sometimes prescribed to men suffering from premature ejaculation.
