Most notably on the API required...
My sample use this :
$opts2 = [SET a subform like if you were setting a main form]
$opts['childs'] = Array('field_subform1', 'field_subform2');
and
$opts['fdd']['field_subform1'] = Array('

'input' = 'V', //could be set automatically
Code to change is mainly in the constructor, to correctly set up the persistent CGI vars.
Not so long term idea, thanks to #158.
A workaround could be to have a basic (at least) working 'php' feature.

I had a first look and try. This is really interesting. And very usefull if compatible with "tab" feature. I hope you'll soon get the help and API feedback I can't provide you...
PS: your phone and email files call for a "types" table which is not in your sql file (btw unusefull for the demo) |

I would very like to hear Michal's opinion, since AFAIK he was doing some company IS where several subforms appears. I saw the his demo and it looks really great, thus his experiences concerning this issue could be very useful for the project, especially regarding this feature. |

1/ Uploaded subf-v1.patch against v1.152
You may see there are not many changes in main class (around 50 lines), and most of them are only in the constructor (around 35 lines)
Principles is to use preg_match on CGI vars to implement correct persistent CGI vars.
2/ Uploaded demo-subform-v2.zip : Full sample with tabs and "nice" css ;-)
You just have
* to execute included .sql
* to put this somewhere in your web directory
* to go to 'people.php' with your browser.
Please note that subf-v1.patch is working with tabs, but #279 (persisting tab) is required to make it _usable_.
That's why the main class included in this demo is
v1.152 + persist-tab-v3.patch + subf-v1.patch
Please try it !

Small details:
- Subforms are not avaible in Add mode, right? I guess it would be tricky and not so secure for bd integrity...

Well, these are implementation details that you may handle manually.
For example, I may imagine some case where users are not allowed to Change anything in the main table put are able to change in the sub-forms.
If subforms are locked during View Mode, then this won't be possible.
With current patch, you may lock in subforms manually by testing CGI variables in the subform calling script, setting $opts['options'] according to the main processed operation.

Well, I was not reviewing patch, thus I'm not sure how this works...
But I believe using this mechanism we can also add M:N database joins support into phpMyEdit, what is.... COOL
Correct me if I'm not right. But if M:N is not possible, we have to cosider if its addition is possible among this feature. |

I believe DB integrity is OK, newly entered user-entry is just the one, who has no phone/e-mail address and I'm almost sure it's the correct user-entry. |

the current patch doesn't disallow subforms in ADD mode.
But if the main new key value is not computed _before_ displaying the form, then it is necessary to use trigger to properly handle this (If you add a subform record, on which main record will you link it ?)
[2] more generally, the current implementation does only :
- clever persisting CGI var
- calling subform object
It's up to the developper to write correct join with $opts['filters'] and to set correct default value in the subform add mode.
[3] How it works :
Principles :
- The MAIN (parent) form is handling CHILD construction and execution
- CHILD forms are storing via CGI variables _previous_ MAIN CGI var
This means you may find at the CHILD level CGI like this :

This is required to know which values to restore (overwrite) at the MAIN level when performing CHILD operation

1/- searching phone number - well, certainly doable so this is a documentation issue, although it depends on what exactly you want to do.
2/ M:N : Yes, I know that, what I need is a sample of user _interface_, different than the uploaded demo.
M:N is already implicitly handled in the uploaded demo (the 'types' of phone number are linked on multiple 'people' using the 'phone' table, and each 'people' has many type of 'phone' number. So you see, it's just a question of interface.)
Please, which _user interface_ you would require which seems not to be doable now. |

Another (real world usage) example of M:N
There are editors (people who write articles).
There are articles (written by editors).
Of course, one editor can write more than one article.
But article can have more than one author (for example Peter & Martin works together on it).
This is exacly M:N binding, because you need another (JOIN) table with article_id and editor_id as well. |

The list of editors can be handles separately (by other PME script).
But we certainly need to have possibility to assign arbitrary number of editors to one article (by choosing from the existing set of editors maintained by separate PME script).
Similarly for sections. We need to have a possibility to assign an article into arbitrary number of sections (in other words: one article can be in several sections). |

(But if you're talking of technical dificulties, there are none. Distinction are easy with prefixes.) It's possible to put whatever instance of PME in the same form without any conflict.

SUBFORM 'table' is the M:N join table articles-editors which is doing a JOIN LOOKUP to editors
same for SUBFORM table is the M:N join table articles-section ........
Your example _is_ my "demo-example". Just replace "article" with "people", and "types" with "editors", and "article-editors" M:N join table with "phones".
(except that I did'nt code to make the reverse calling script, which would have editors as main table and "article" as lookup of the subform (m:n join) table.

Have applied the #280 fix to be able to work with subforms. This works OK as long as you stay with the BUTTON userinterface. When using GRAPHICS behavior is not right. Steps To Reproduce When for example pressing 'update' the main tab is shown, instead of the subform tab. When you press the subform tab manually the 'update' subform is shown in the correct way. This also happens with the people/phone/email example that is part of the #280 fix examples |

I have downloaded PME 5.4 and would like to use and try the subforms while making sure that the Graphic view and other PME 5.4 functionalities are working properly. Can you please advise me on the procedure to follow in order to enable subforms? Are the files attached on this bug are approved for update?

The subforms feature is not working on my PC with the Calendar extension of PME5.4. In fact, if I utilize the Calendar PME object, I cannot add and edit DB records.
What can be the source of this issue?
In addition, is it possible to manually select the KEY to access the subforms? Right now, it is predefined. |

Hi all,
I have noticed that the triggers are not working on my system when using the subform class. When I place a INSERT-AFTER trigger, it is failing with the information below:

I've been using this code for quite some time and have noticed issues with the graphics navigation, but I have just run into something that I'm not sure I have ever tested before and it has become a real issue. Any pointers on where to look in the code will definately help. When using a subform tab and the subform has enough records that it requires pagination, the next and other page selection functions all just drop me out to the original select list.
Example:
Mysql tables groups and users
Tabbed PME form has info from the group table on the first (0) tab abd the users table is a subform on the second tab.
If I select a group from the initial list to "Change" or "View" and then select the "Users" tab and try to page through this list, I keep dropping out to the initial select list of groups.
Add and Delete work fine and I can view or change records in the user list, I just can't page through the list.
Is it possible this is still just a missing Prefix somewhere???
I have lot's of forms with lot's of subforms and so far this is working incredibly well except for this one thing.
Any ideas??? |

Based on the examples in the demo files I reworked those files and got a very similar result (i.e. fully working subform examples) by using the STANDARD phpMyEdit class, in my case the cvs#1.165 !
The idea was simple: use iframes to simulate subforms.
The advantage is that each "subform" is a fully autonomous complete form and can be tested as such.
How does it work ? I show the differences only for the phones tab to keep it simple. Changes in emails.php are identical.
1. Changes in people.php are:

As you can read handling of single, double quotes, backslashes was a bit tricky but I wanted, for my real case, to be able to process keys containing character strings including special characters like spaces.

JP, I tested you're iframe version. It looks great, and of course it works with current CVS.
But I only can get active the phone subform when people form is on View or List mode. I can't figure out on how to get it active also when people form is on Change or Add mode (iframe get stuck in an input tag).
Anybody would have a clue on how to free the iframe (=result of SQL) out of input field?

This hasn't been talked about for coming up on 9 months, I'm curious if there have been any updates on this. I've tested it with current CVS and it worked just fine (with the v2 demo).
